About This Trail System
The Buffalo Mountain Trail System located between Williamson, Delbarton, and Matewan, West Virginia, consists of 102 total miles of trail. The Buffalo Mountain Trail System has plenty to offer, with not one, but two Trailheads with a two-acre parking area and restrooms. The first is located just south of Williamson on Route 52, and the second is located in the history steeped town of Matewan. The Buffalo Mountain Trail is commonly known as the most historic trail of all the Hatfield-McCoy systems. Incredibly popular with dirt bike riders and motorcycle enthusiasts, Buffalo Mountain offers the most single track mileage of any Hatfield-McCoy Trail System with over 20 new miles opened in 2009. This trail system has three community connectors in the towns of Williamson, Delbarton, and Matewan. The breakdown in trail mileage on the Buffalo Trail System is as follows: 47 miles or 46% are green trails (easiest), 21.5 miles or 21% are blue trails (more difficult), 8.5 miles or 8% are black trails (most difficult), 2.5 miles or 2% are red/black (extreme difficult),and 22.5 miles or 23% are orange trails (single track only). This trail system has direct access to the cities of Matewan, Delbarton, and Williamson, WV. Each of these towns offer fuel, full service food, and lodging services.
